MyStay

Inpatient communication

The move toward single-occupancy rooms and larger hospital footprints has created a physical distance between patients and staff. When a patient is behind a closed door, their needs can become invisible. Currently, the pull cord is often the only way to get attention. As a result, this often leads to time-consuming, redundant trips for requests patients consider minor.

MyStay is a patient application developed by DNV Imatis in collaboration with clinicians. It allows patients to send specific requests directly to their nurse at the touch of a button while providing secure access to the essential information about their stay.

MyStay Inpatient communication

Patient application

MyStay solves the problem of double trips. Currently, a nurse often enters a room just to find out what a patient wants, only to have to leave again to fetch it. MyStay is designed to reduce the distance walked by staff on every shift and to unlock capacity to care.

  • Communicate specific needs: Patients can request assistance or simple needs like a glass of water or help with toileting
  • Prioritise tasks and enquiries: Staff see exactly what is needed before they enter the room, making it easier to prioritise and respond
  • Confirm and reassure: Digital confirmation that a request has been received and seen by the care team provides peace of mind for patients and reduces unnecessary follow-up enquiries for staff

  • A supplement to the pull cord: The pull cord remains for urgent alerts, while MyStay handles routine requests and general communication

Information platform

A hospital stay can be overwhelming and make it difficult to take in every piece of information. That is why MyStay provides patients with secure access to the essential details recorded by the hospital:

  • Responsible staff: See who is the responsible nurse and staff for the stay
  • Daily plan: View information about appointments and the daily schedule
  • Active participation: Better understand the treatment plan to establish a sense of continuity and actively participate in their own healthcare

Significance for single rooms and isolation units

In new hospital builds with a large number of single-bed rooms and long distances, MyStay is a central tool for efficiency and safety.

For patients in isolation units, MyStay significantly reduces the need for staff to go through repetitive and time-consuming donning and doffing of PPE (personal protective equipment). Instead of the lengthy process of putting on full PPE just to identify a minor need, the ward team can communicate more efficiently. This ensures healthcare professionals can respond promptly and accurately to the patient.

Designed for everyone

MyStay has been developed with a focus on simplicity and accessibility to ensure it is intuitive for every patient.

  • Bring your own device: Patients can use the application on their own smartphone or tablet simply by scanning a QR code. This enables those with impaired vision or specific needs to use the familiar accessibility settings on their own devices

  • Tested by patients: MyStay has been informed by feedback from a wide range of users, including youth councils and patient reference groups, to ensure it works for all ages

  • Clinical collaboration: Developed in partnership with healthcare authorities to ensure the platform meets the real and practical needs of a busy ward

Enhancing the patient experience

MyStay connects patients and healthcare staff. By integrating patient requests directly into the workflow, we ensure that reported needs are acknowledged and addressed.
